Brave Boy

Duncan showing off his ER "bracelets"

Well, we made it over three and 1/2 years without a trip to the ER, but tonight was the night. Really it was not a big deal and not a bad experience. Duncan had complained of a "hurting ear" around 4pm. I gave him some Motrin and 15 min. later noticed he had hives. I wasn't too concerned, he has had little splotches every once in awhile that quickly disappear. However, about 10 min later he was almost covered, including his face with red splotches. Of course, pediatrician's office just closed for the day. I called the nurse line and they said take him to get checked out. Rather than sit at a Primacare forever and then possibly be told he needs to be at a hospital (if it had been something that had progressed), we headed to Medical City ER.

A friend that I was supposed to get together with tonight watched the other 2 boys-thank goodness. Dad met us at the ER. By this time Duncan was crying because he was itching so bad. It didn't seem to crowded, but it still took 2 1/2 hours. He was a champ, he didn't shy away from any of the staff, took the medicine they gave him, and amused himself the whole time!! The bottom line was he had an allergic reaction to "something" ( I kind of knew that) we will have to wait and see if we figure out what in the near future. There is a possibility it was the Motrin, although he has taken that before but not recently. They checked out his ear as well and he did have an ear infection.

So, all in all, not a bad experience, nothing life threatening, nothing broken, no blood loss. I'm sure we will experience worse with 3 boys! The ER doc was a Watermark member:)
